Apple TV subscribers in the United States gained access to Dolby Atmos audio for Formula 1 coverage on Friday, October 23. The United States Grand Prix is the first race in the sport's history to be broadcast in this format. Apple and Dolby Laboratories confirmed the partnership earlier in the month, specifying that the audio upgrade would launch with the current race weekend.
Apple stated that the spatial audio technology is designed to immerse viewers in the race environment. The system captures specific sounds including team radio chatter, commentary, engine noise, and pit lane activity. The company noted that combining Dolby Atmos with Dolby Vision creates a high-fidelity visual and audio experience for fans watching at home.
The race schedule continues through the weekend. Practice 2 took place at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, October 23. Practice 3 begins at 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, October 24. Qualifying follows at 5 p.m. ET that same day. The main race event is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 25.
Apple is hosting a live screening of the Sunday race at its Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin, Texas. The location also served as the venue for the iPhone Duo launch on Friday, where Apple CEO John Ternus and retail chief Deirdre O'Brien appeared. The company recently expanded its Detailed City Experience in Apple Maps to include Austin. This update features a detailed map of the Circuit of The Americas, displaying turn numbers, grandstands, and 3D landmarks to aid navigation.
Apple TV is available for $14.99 per month or as part of the Apple One bundle. The streaming service also offers titles such as Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo.
