Anne Arundel County gained a new retail option on Thursday as Tara and Ben Wegdam opened the second of their businesses in the region. The new storefront, named Creme de la Creme, operates on Francis Street in downtown Annapolis.

The couple, who launched their first store in Middleburg, Virginia, in 2000, now manage six locations. Ben Wegdam stated that the company prioritizes locations with high customer potential. He described the downtown Annapolis area as the perfect spot for their next expansion.

Tara Wegdam noted that the neighborhood combines high foot traffic with a stable resident population. She explained that many visitors come to the area for various reasons, but a large number also live locally. This mix supports a business model where shoppers personalize their living spaces. Wegdam added that the absence of a similar competitor in the immediate vicinity was a deciding factor for the couple.

The Wegdams manage inventory and store layouts by sharing data across their network. Ben Wegdam said managers from all six locations communicate weekly to refine product selection and merchandising strategies. He explained that when a suitable property becomes available, the couple acts quickly to secure it.

The grand opening on Thursday attracted both new visitors and repeat customers. Tara Wegdam said she welcomed the opportunity to meet new neighbors. She noted that several longtime clients visited the store. One customer was wearing apparel from the brand, which sells clothing alongside home goods. Wegdam said she appreciated hearing how customers utilize their purchases and noted that some recent transplants to the area were pleased the store had arrived.

The new location joins a wave of commercial growth in the region. According to the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation, nearly 60 new or expanding businesses registered in the county during May and June of this year.
