Russian and Ukrainian forces will pause fighting in a designated area starting the night of October 27. This two-day ceasefire creates a narrow window to deliver food, medicine, and evacuation routes to Oleshky, a town in Kherson Oblast currently under Russian occupation. The truce follows weeks of negotiations aimed at resolving the crisis in the region.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian president, confirmed the arrangement in a video address. He stated that Russian troops have mined roads in the occupied zone, making conditions "extremely dire." Zelenskyy expressed hope that American mediation would finalize the deal, noting that Ukraine is prepared to fulfill its obligations once the agreement is active.

The White House claimed credit for the breakthrough. A statement from the administration said First Lady Melania Trump secured the truce to address what officials described as a humanitarian disaster. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov verified that Russia agreed to the halt in hostilities to facilitate the humanitarian mission.

Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, provided the specific timeline for the operation. He announced that the aid mission will begin on October 29, falling within the designated ceasefire period. The plan involves restoring access to the town and allowing residents to leave the combat zone.

The ceasefire begins on the night of October 27 and lasts for 48 hours. This schedule aligns with the October 29 target date set by Ukrainian officials for the actual delivery of supplies and personnel movement. Both general staffs confirmed the start time in an announcement on Friday evening.
