Four individuals sustained injuries following a drive-by shooting outside a venue in Loganholme, Queensland, that was hosting a boxing event. The incident occurred on Saturday evening, disrupting a night intended to showcase local athletic talent and provide a family-friendly environment for residents and their children.
Queensland police received reports of shots fired from a vehicle at 8:15 p.m. Officers responded to the licensed premises, Fitzys Loganholme on Bryants Road, and observed the suspect vehicle departing the scene. The four victims were transported to a hospital where medical staff are currently assessing their conditions. Deputy Commander Chris Stream described the scene as confronting and confirmed that multiple people had suffered gunshot wounds.
The event, known as the Logan City Titles Fight Night, is designed to engage young people and steer them away from violence. Logan mayor Jon Raven noted that the area is experiencing significant fear in the aftermath. He stated that the incident has sent a shockwave through the community, marking a first for Logan in terms of such a violent occurrence near a social gathering.
Raven emphasized that the venue is typically a safe space where many children attend. He expressed that the event will leave a lasting impact on those present. The mayor highlighted that the organizer uses boxing as a tool to empower youth and reconnect those at risk of going off track. Raven noted that the organizer would be devastated, as the incident represents the opposite of the event's intended purpose.
In a statement posted on social media on Sunday morning, the Logan City Titles organizers expressed their heartbreak over the incident. They described the event as a community showcase for local talent and hard work. The group asserted that such incidents have no place in the boxing community or the broader society, reinforcing the event's focus on skill and dedication inside the ring.
Police have indicated that the offenders remain at large. While investigators do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public, they are actively seeking information to identify the suspects. Authorities have urged anyone with details about the shooting to come forward and contact them to assist in the investigation.
