A jury at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court has heard that a husband drugged and raped his wife for more than 20 years before inviting two strangers to sexually abuse her in an hour. The victim was described by prosecution counsel as plainly unconscious during the assaults, which occurred in the couple's own bedroom. The husband, a man in his 60s from Stockport who is suing for anonymity, has admitted to the long-term drugging and rape. He is now set to testify against nine other men accused of sharing these barbaric fantasies.
The pattern of abuse began around 2015, according to court records. The husband used the online messaging site fabswingers.com to find men with a sexual interest in unresponsive women. He also connected with other accused parties through Telegram chat groups. The timeline of the specific incident presented to the jury involves a single night in 2024. Graham Brougham, 74, of Northwich, was invited to the home and raped the unconscious woman. The husband then arranged for Sean Peers, 38, also of Stockport, to visit shortly after Brougham left. Both men admitted their guilt in the case.
The prosecution detailed how the husband documented the abuse. He took photographs of his wife while she was unconscious as Brougham finished his assault. He then photographed Peers during his attack and shared the images with Peers later that same day. Peers replied to the messages with the comment: You should show her off more often. The husband also shared the images with Daniel Rayner, 42, of Whitstable, Kent, who is currently on trial. Rayner asked in a text exchange if the woman was unconscious, noting that he usually used GHB for such encounters.
Keith Fotheringham, 59, of Dundee, attended the marital home in 2025 to abuse the unconscious victim. He pleaded guilty to various offenses, including supplying drugs to the husband and seeking out imagery of the abuse. Fotheringham took a selfie while lifting the woman's arm to perform an eye check. The Crown argues that his role extended beyond his own acts to include participating in the main conspiracies. Two other defendants, Philip Wild and Mohammed Sabir, are accused of abusing the woman in early 2025 during a single night. Wild, a taxi driver, and Sabir, a recruitment agency worker, both met the husband via the online platform.
Nine men are currently standing trial on charges related to the same woman. Seven are alleged contact offenders who visited the home, while two are non-contact offenders who conspired to administer substances. The defendants include Jordan Wallace, Alan Keelan, Robert Stewart, Richard Townsend, and Jonathan Kirk, who are all on trial for various counts of rape, attempted rape, and conspiracy. David Graves and Daniel Rayner are accused of hiding behind a screen while conspiring to drug the victim. The offenses are said to have occurred on various dates between 2015 and 2025.
Karl Lindsay, 56, the former chief executive of Taunton Town Football Club, was originally due to stand trial with the other nine men. He changed his plea last week after stepping down from his role at the club. Lindsay admitted to offenses between January 2015 and October 2025 involving the rape of the woman and the administration of substances to stupefy her. He will be sentenced at a later date along with Fotheringham, Peers, and Brougham, who have all pleaded guilty to their respective roles in the abuse.
The trial continues as the husband prepares to give evidence against the remaining defendants. The Crown maintains that the abuse was not a fantasy or role play, but a designed method to ensure the husband continued his offending. An upset relative of the victim walked out of the courtroom after video recordings of the alleged abuse were played to the jury. The sentencing for the guilty parties will take place after the conclusion of the trial for the nine men currently facing charges.
