Newark police confirmed on Tuesday that they have identified a seventh person injured in the mass shooting that occurred near the University of Delaware campus.
Officers found the 17-year-old on Monday. He sustained a graze wound to his lower left torso during the incident at the intersection of Main Street and Choate Street. The teen had left the scene on Halloween night without reporting the injury. Law enforcement located him and took him to a hospital, where he was subsequently released.
This new identification brings the total number of gunshot victims to seven. The other six individuals ranged in age from 15 to 21. As of Monday, the youngest victim, a 15-year-old, remained in critical condition.
No suspect has been charged with firing the weapon. However, police charged a 16-year-old who was shot in the incident. He faces charges for possession of a firearm by a person under 21, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and breach of release.
Detective Paige Klein is leading the investigation. She is asking the public to submit any photos or videos of the shooting. Residents can contact the detective at 302-366-7100 extension 3480 or by email at pklein@newark.de.us.
