Chinese consumers will have access to a new Samsung foldable on October 29, according to information released by leaker Ice Universe. The device, identified as the Galaxy W27, is scheduled for sale six days from now. Ice Universe shared an image showing the phone with a glossy blue rear panel and gold trim surrounding the triple-lens camera module.
The W27 serves as the 2026 edition of Samsung’s annual China-exclusive smartphone line. This series has historically taken the specifications of Samsung’s top-tier foldable and presented it with distinct styling and packaging. For this year, the W27 aligns directly with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra in both hardware specs and design. The pricing structure reflects this status, with the W27 costing $1,000 more than the standard Z Fold 8 Ultra model.
Samsung has maintained this yearly tradition of releasing a premium variant for the Chinese market. Each generation of the W series has typically featured additional aesthetic details. The only deviation from this pattern occurred in 2024, when the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition received a wider global release. That release served as a precursor to the design shift seen in the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The decision to base the W27 on the Ultra model rather than the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a notable departure. The standard Z Fold 8 features a new form factor that has attracted strong customer interest. Meanwhile, wide-format foldables are gaining market share in China. Competitors such as Huawei have long offered wide folding screens, and Xiaomi’s latest device shares a similar physical profile.
This launch occurs while Samsung emphasizes the strong performance of its current foldable lineup. The company stated that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a commercial success and noted that the introduction of the iPhone Duo has increased attention on foldable technology. Industry analysts predict that global foldable display shipments will rise by 44% in 2026, driven largely by the arrival of these wider devices. Samsung has also recently pushed Android 17 updates to various Galaxy models.
If the leaked October 29 date holds, the Galaxy W27 will be the final new foldable from Samsung for the current year. The company has several additional foldable models planned for release in the following year.
