Donald Trump endorsed Benjamin Netanyahu for a second time on Sunday evening, urging American and Israeli voters to elect the prime minister to complete military operations against Iran. In a post on Truth Social, Trump described Netanyahu as an outstanding warrior prime minister and stated that the two leaders must finish the job they started together.
The endorsement comes days before the upcoming Israeli election. Trump referenced Operation Midnight Hammer and Operation Epic Fury, citing his strong relationship with Netanyahu in winning these conflicts. He warned that if Israel chose a different leader, the United States might have to handle the confrontation with Iran alone. Trump added that he was not inclined to take on that burden.
Netanyahu intensified his efforts to secure this support earlier on Sunday. Two American sources confirmed that the prime minister and his allies within Trump's inner circle increased pressure for new statements of backing. One source described Netanyahu as showing signs of political desperation, a level of urgency they had not previously observed.
According to earlier reports from Axios, Netanyahu and Trump spoke twice over the preceding three days. During these conversations, Netanyahu suggested specific wording for new endorsements and proposed that Trump speak with Israeli journalists to reiterate his support. The president accepted the call to action by issuing the social media post on Sunday evening.
The next step in the electoral process is the upcoming vote. Trump’s message specifically addressed those going to the polls, instructing them to remember Netanyahu's role in recent military successes. The endorsement serves as a direct appeal to the electorate regarding the future of US-Israel relations.
