Cheshire residents face a heavy financial decision on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The ballot asks voters to approve five separate capital projects totaling $6.7 million. These items cover infrastructure, public safety, and land acquisition for the town. Polling stations at the regular locations and Town Hall at 84 S. Main St. will open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. for the election.

The largest request on the ballot is $2.35 million for the town's road improvement program. Another $1.375 million is earmarked for the reconstruction of Dickerman Road. The remaining funds are allocated for specific municipal needs: $1.1 million for a replacement salt shed at the Public Works garage, $1 million to purchase land for recreation or municipal use, and $875,000 for safety and drainage upgrades at the Cheshire High School loading dock.

According to the town clerk's explanatory text, the annual cost to homeowners will vary by property value. For an average-valued home, the yearly tax impact ranges from $5.17 to $13.63 per question over a 20-year period. This financial burden is the central conflict for voters deciding whether to approve the borrowing.

While the election dominates the local calendar, several town committees will meet throughout the week. On Wednesday, Nov. 4, the Town Beautification Committee will convene at 8:30 a.m. in Room 207/209 of Town Hall. The agenda includes a review of a ground sign for GTA at 330 S. Main St. and a discussion on the Bartlem Park Native Plant Enhancement Project.

Later that same evening at 5 p.m., the Youth and Human Services Committee will meet in Room 207. Representatives from the Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling and MCCA will present an overview of gambling trends, risks, and responsible play efforts in the state. The committee will also receive updates from the Human Services department.

The Veterans Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet twice this week, on Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. in Room 207/209. As of Friday, no agenda had been posted for these sessions. The Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission will hold its regular meeting on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. Its agenda was also not yet available as of Friday.
