Jaylen Brown scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds during the Philadelphia 76ers' road victory over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night. Following the game, the forward directly addressed a recent report from Boston Celtics television color announcer Brian Scalabrine. Brown stated that the narrative surrounding his departure from Boston was inaccurate.
Scalabrine initially reported that Brown had demanded a trade and specifically sought a deal involving Giannis Antetokounmpo. The analyst later modified that claim, suggesting Brown had instead provided the Celtics with a list of organizational changes required for him to remain. Brown's representative told ESPN that the sole request made was for Brown and Jayson Tatum to receive equal treatment.
"Never demanded a trade. Never made a list of ultimatums. None of the sort. None of that is true," Brown said after the game. He noted that he saw Scalabrine's comments and understood the analyst's role, but he wanted to ensure false allegations did not follow him to Philadelphia. Brown described his current situation as a tremendous opportunity and said he plans to focus exclusively on his performance for the Sixers during the season.
The dispute has intensified since Brown offered commentary on his former teammate. Brown said he has no beef with Tatum but might have some lamb chops with him. He also remarked that Tatum has a great PR team and needs to stay ready at all times. These remarks appeared in the days leading up to the Sixers' win in Indianapolis.
Celtics broadcasts have since taken direct aim at Brown. Scalabrine, who has been prominent in the coverage, made a specific reference to Brown's on-court tendencies. "If I was doing PR work for Jayson Tatum," Scalabrine said, "I would remind everybody who led the league in turnovers last year."
The 76ers secured their win in Indianapolis on Wednesday. Brown's statistical performance included the 20 points and 10 rebounds mentioned earlier. He stated he will leave questions about the trade saga for another time and keep his focus on the tasks in front of him in Philadelphia.
