Three individuals remain at large after entering the sewer system in Queens on Wednesday night. They were seen removing a street hole cover and climbing down into the tunnels near 60th Street and 43rd Avenue in Woodside.

The NYPD received a 911 call reporting a trespass at approximately 10:22 p.m. on October 28. A witness told officers from the 108th Precinct that he saw the trio disappear into the infrastructure.

Police established a crime scene at the location. Officers canvassed the surrounding area to find video evidence that could help identify the suspects. The Department of Environmental Protection sent a crew from its Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations to the site.

The NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit responded but did not enter the sewer system. Authorities have not confirmed whether the suspects encountered hazards underground or if they caused damage to the infrastructure.

The incident adds to a pattern of activity observed in New York City manholes this year. On October 11, three men were seen diving into a manhole in Manhattan’s Hamilton Heights neighborhood.

Police stated they do not believe the underground activity poses a security risk to the public. The investigation remains ongoing. Residents can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or 888-57-PISTA for Spanish. Tips can also be submitted online at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or via X at @NYPDTips.
