Bojangles Pushes Upper Marlboro Opening to November 9
A plumbing issue beneath the drive-thru lane has delayed the restaurant's return to Prince George's County by one week.

Bojangles has postponed the opening of its new Upper Marlboro location until November 9. The fast-food chain, known for fried chicken and biscuits, originally planned to open on Monday. Jay Johnson, a co-owner of the site, announced the change in a video posted to the store's Facebook page. The delay stems from construction work on a pipe running underneath the planned drive-thru lane.
The restaurant is set to reopen in a county that previously hosted five Bojangles outlets. Those locations were in Upper Marlboro, Oxon Hill, New Carrollton, Hillcrest Heights, and Largo. All five closed suddenly in late 2023. In March 2024, former employees told WUSA9 that the franchise owners had mismanaged funds and left workers owed thousands of dollars in back pay.
The Upper Marlboro site now operates under new ownership. A Facebook post from March 2025 confirmed this change in management. As of Monday morning, the store was still in the process of training its staff.
Residents have followed the progress closely, with some expressing frustration over the timing. One commenter on the store's Facebook page noted they had to drive to Portsmouth for the chain's signature potato rounds. The user added that they would see the new location on the 9th.
The delay extends the wait for customers hoping to return to the brand in the region. The new date places the opening exactly one week after the initial target.
