Pret A Manger is rolling out a new £4.99 lunch deal featuring warm ciabattas and seasonal drinks. The move coincides with renewed curiosity among customers about the brand's name. Many patrons, even after decades of service, are only now learning the English translation of the company's title.

The chain opened its first location in 1986. It has since expanded to more than 700 sites globally. Of these, 527 are located in the United Kingdom. The company serves over one million customers daily with beverages, sandwiches, and sweet treats.

A recent query on the platform Quora asked what the name means. One user replied that "Pret A Manger" is a French phrase. The user stated it translates to "ready to eat" in English. The response noted the name reflects the company's focus on freshly prepared food. The user emphasized that the items are convenient for customers to grab and enjoy on the go.

Another contributor on the thread added that the name is a nod to "prêt-à-porter." This fashion term means "ready to wear." The user explained that the implication is no waiting time, similar to off-the-rack clothing versus tailor-made garments. The user said the chain aims to capture an audience that cares about becoming a little healthier while still getting food fast.

A third commenter confirmed the fashion connection. They described it as a play on the phrase for ready-to-wear women's fashion. The commenter said the core idea remains the same: ready to eat with no waiting time.

The new menu items accompanying the lunch deal include three warm ciabatta options. The Three Cheese and Tomato Ciabatta features cheddar, mozzarella, and Italian-style cheese. It sits on a bed of red tapenade and is topped with roasted tomatoes and basil. The description compares the warm, melty fill to a margarita pizza in an airy ciabatta.

The Chicken Caesar Bacon Ciabatta contains chicken and bacon in Caesar dressing. It is topped with Grevé, an Italian hard cheese, and spring onion. The Beef Birria and Jalapeno Ciabatta includes tender beef birria, black bean mole, and cream cheese. It is topped with peppers, spring onion, and jalapeños for a spicy kick.

The pastry lineup includes a Spinach and Feta Pastry. This item is a flaky, golden pastry filled with spinach and creamy feta cheese. It is topped with a seed mix for added crunch. The Bacon, Cheese, and Jalapeño Pastry contains smoked bacon, melty cheese, and sweet caramelized onion. It features a touch of jalapeño and is served warm.

New soup options include a Creamy Roast Chicken. This soup is made with roast chicken, cream, potatoes, and vegetables. It is finished with herbs and garlic. The Butter Chicken soup features tender chicken, red pepper, and black lentils. It is a rich, butter masala curry soup spiced with garlic, ginger, and garam masala.

The sweet and beverage menu adds several seasonal items. The Loaded Chocolate Chunk Banana Bread is topped with a miso caramel glaze and caramelized flaked almonds. The Banana Cinnamon Porridge is Pret's proper porridge topped with banana, cinnamon, and brown sugar. New cookies include a Chocolate Hazelnut Praline, a Triple Chocolate, and a Raspberry and White Chocolate variety. All are described as buttery and freshly baked every day.

The drink menu features a Toasted Marshmallow Latte. It is a silky smooth latte infused with toasted marshmallow flavor. It is topped with a swirl of toasted marshmallow flavored whipped cream. The Toasted Marshmallow Hot Chocolate is a classic hot chocolate infused with toasted marshmallow flavors. It is topped with whipped cream and a dusting of chocolate. The Pumpkin Spiced Latte combines espresso and steamed milk. It is infused with pumpkin spice and topped with a sprinkling of cinnamon.
