Jay-Z Will Play 2027 Halftime, Seven Years After Turning Down NFL Offer

Jay-Z, who has won 25 Grammy Awards from 89 nominations, will headline the halftime show at Super Bowl 2027. The NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation announced the booking Monday night for the Feb. 14 game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The announcement included a short video of Jay-Z seated in the stadium surrounded by goats, captioned "GOAT's out of the bag."

The performance marks a reversal. Roc Nation has advised the league and helped produce its entertainment presentations, including the halftime show, since 2019. At the time, Jay-Z said he told NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, "If this is about me performing at the Super Bowl, then we can just end this conversation now." Seven years later, he is set to perform after all. The halftime headliners since then have included Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd.

Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, closed his "Jay-Z 30" concerts this past weekend at SoFi Stadium, the same venue scheduled for the Super Bowl show. That run opened with three shows at Yankee Stadium in New York, moved on to London and finished in Southern California. After days of speculation, the NFL booking followed.

His catalog includes the albums "Reasonable Doubt," "The Blueprint" and "The Black Album," along with "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)," "99 Problems" and "Empire State of Mind," his collaboration with Alicia Keys. "Reasonable Doubt," released in 1996, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame last year. Jay-Z became the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017 and joined the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. He co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records and founded Roc Nation in 2008.

His 89 Grammy nominations rank second in history behind his wife, Beyoncé, who has performed at two Super Bowls. The Super Bowl 2027 halftime show is scheduled for Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
