Three members of the Philadelphia Phillies organization have been selected as finalists for major league honors announced on Sunday. The nominations cover pitching, relief work, and management within the National League.
Cristopher Sánchez is competing for the National League Cy Young Award for the second year in a row. He joins Atlanta’s Chris Sale and Milwaukee’s Jacob Misiorowski on the ballot. Last season, Sánchez finished as the unanimous runner-up to Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes in that voting. In the 2026 season, the left-hander posted a 2.91 ERA. He also pitched 207 innings, a career high that ranked second in baseball behind Miami’s Sandy Alcantara.
Sánchez led all National League pitchers in wins with 18 and in starts with 33. He also topped the league in bWAR with a figure of 8.1. His scoreless streak of 50 and two-thirds innings set a new single-season record for left-handed pitchers in major league history. The Phillies named him the starting pitcher for the National League in the All-Star Game held in Philadelphia.
Closer Jhoan Duran is a finalist for the National League Reliever of the Year Award. This specific honor is being presented for the first time this season by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Duran recorded a 1.82 ERA and a 0.994 WHIP over 59 and one-third innings. He secured 33 saves in 35 opportunities, a total that ranked fourth in the National League. His competitors for the new award include Milwaukee’s Trevor Megill and San Diego’s Mason Miller.
Don Mattingly was named a finalist for National League Manager of the Year. He faces Milwaukee’s Pat Murphy and Atlanta’s Walt Weiss for the title. Mattingly took over the Phillies bench on April 28 after Rob Thomson was fired. The team started the season with a 9-19 record. Mattingly compiled a 79-55 record and led the club to a second-place finish in the NL East. The team earned a spot in the wild-card series but lost to the Braves in three games.
The Phillies removed the interim designation from Mattingly’s title earlier this offseason, confirming him as the full-time manager. All three finalists will be considered by the BBWAA. The winners of these awards, along with the Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year honors for both leagues, will be revealed during the week of Nov. 9. Kevin McGonigle of the Detroit Tigers is also a finalist for the American League Rookie of the Year award.
