The high school football regular season in Minnesota's East Metro closed Friday night with several teams making decisive moves ahead of the postseason.
Roseville secured the Metro Maroon subdistrict title after a 24-14 victory over Coon Rapids. The win lifted the Raiders to a 4-4 record, their best finish since 2017. Senior quarterback Chase Browning completed the game with 162 yards through the air and three scoring throws. "It's an amazing feeling," Browning said. "I don't even have words for it. We've all worked so hard. It's great to see it finally paying off."
Several other programs posted convincing results to close out their schedules. Centennial defeated Anoka by a score of 38-6, limiting the Tornadoes to single digits for the first time this season; that outcome likely positions the Cougars as the No. 3 seed for the Class 6A bracket. In the Metro East subdistrict, Mounds View claimed sole possession of the title by edging White Bear Lake 22-16. With a two-point deficit late in the fourth quarter, the Mustangs took the lead on a one-yard run by Tanner Jude with 65 seconds remaining, and a subsequent two-point conversion pushed the advantage to six. Preston Johnson then intercepted a pass to end the Bears' final possession. Mounds View's defense held White Bear Lake quarterback Wyatt Stachowiak to six completions on 24 attempts.
Forest Lake's Mack Jurkovich delivered the top individual performance of the night, rushing for 245 yards and two touchdowns as the Rangers beat Stillwater 31-13. That win locks up a No. 2 seed for Forest Lake, and Jurkovich, who has committed to St. Thomas, finished the regular season with 1,600 rushing yards. East Ridge also posted a victory, defeating rival Woodbury 42-31 behind two rushing scores from Logan Tretter and a late interception return for a touchdown by Elias Mather.
Park junior receiver Manny Vargas scored twice in his team's 18-10 win over Eastview, hauling in a touchdown pass and returning a punt 75 yards for a score. The most dramatic moment of the evening occurred in the south metro, where Lakeville South sophomore kicker Dylan Nelson made a 36-yard field goal as time expired. His kick gave the Cougars a 17-14 upset of Rosemount, a result that complicates the seeding picture in the south metro for the Class 6A playoffs.
