The Milwaukee Brewers moved within one victory of their first World Series title after beating the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field. The win gave Milwaukee a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Milwaukee built its lead during a decisive fifth inning. Trailing or tied in a tight game moments earlier, the Brewers sent 12 batters to the plate. They collected seven consecutive hits, all with two outs, to score eight runs in the frame. It was the first time a team scored eight two-out runs in a single inning in World Series history.

The rally began after a replay review overturned an out call at second base. With two outs, Brice Turang hit a two-run single. Garrett Mitchell followed with an RBI hit, Cooper Pratt drove in two runs with a double, and Sal Frelick added another double.

Starter Robert Gasser kept Tampa Bay off the scoreboard. The rookie left-hander allowed one hit and did not allow a batter to reach base after the first inning until walking a hitter in the sixth. He faced the minimum number of hitters through six innings. That marked the first time a Milwaukee starter has recorded an out in the sixth inning during this postseason.

Jackson Chourio led Milwaukee's offense. He finished with four hits in five at-bats, including a double, and stole a base. He has eight hits across the first three games of the series. Chourio became the second-youngest player to record four hits and a stolen base in a World Series game, behind Ty Cobb in 1908.

Tampa Bay starter Freddy Peralta, who was named MVP of the American League Championship Series, lasted 4 2/3 innings. He gave up five runs and seven hits. Milwaukee finished with 16 hits in the game.

Tampa Bay's season now depends on winning Game 4. Milwaukee can clinch the championship with one more victory. Of the 25 previous teams that took a 3-0 lead in the World Series, 21 completed the sweep and four won in five games.

The Rays have never won a World Series in 29 seasons. The franchise lost to Philadelphia in 2008 and to the Dodgers in 2020. Milwaukee's only other World Series appearance ended with a Game 7 loss to St. Louis in 1982.

Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay announced Griffin Jax as its starting pitcher. The Brewers have not announced their starter.
