The Philadelphia Eagles lost their fifth consecutive game on Monday night, falling 38-21 to the Dallas Cowboys. The defeat extends the longest losing streak for the Eagles since 2016, leaving the team with a 2-5 record. Dallas improved to 3-4 and now holds a realistic chance at the NFC East title, as the New York Giants lead the division at 4-2-1.
Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with CeeDee Lamb for two of the scores. Running back Javonte Williams rushed for a career-high 155 yards and a touchdown. The Cowboys finished with 204 yards on the ground, marking the first 150-yard rushing game by a Dallas player since Ezekiel Elliott in 2018.
Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to blood clots in his lungs. Backup Tanner McKee started in his place. McKee completed 23 of 35 passes for 211 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Eagles are 3-6 without Hurts since he became the starter in 2021. Coach Nick Sirianni noted that football deals tough hands, and the team must continue fighting.
The Eagles' defense allowed 416 total yards and 25 first downs to Dallas. Philadelphia has given up at least 375 yards in each game of its current losing streak. The Cowboys' offense controlled the clock, with Prescott leading long drives that McKee could not match. Dallas kicker Brandon Aubrey converted field goals of 55, 27, and 24 yards. The final kick extended the lead to 31-21.
In the fourth quarter, Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown intercepted a pass from McKee. This was Overshown's first game since suffering a hamstring injury in Week 1. The pick sealed the victory for Dallas. Overshown said the team is in the division race. Prescott said winning a division game on the road in a hostile environment was massive before the team heads home for a break.
The Eagles scored their only touchdown of the second half in the third quarter. McKee orchestrated a drive that ran nearly 10 minutes off the clock. He hit rookie Makai Lemon for a 4-yard touchdown pass, giving Philadelphia a 21-20 lead. The Eagles did not score again after that drive.
Dallas built its lead in the first half. Prescott threw a 9-yard touchdown to Lamb and a 21-yard score to George Pickens. Pickens escaped tight coverage by safety Andrew Mukuba in the end zone to make the catch. The Eagles responded early in the game when Saquon Barkley ran for an 8-yard touchdown. Barkley returned after missing two games with a hamstring injury and finished with 62 yards on seven carries. He also received treatment for a back injury on the sideline.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was inducted into the team's Hall of Fame before the game. Lurie purchased the franchise on May 6, 1994. Under his ownership, the Eagles have played in four Super Bowls and won two championships. He gave a brief halftime speech flanked by Hall of Famers Brian Dawkins and Donovan McNabb. Unlike other inductees, Lurie did not hold a pregame news conference. Sirianni remained the only team representative addressing Hurts' condition.
