The Chicago Bears defeated the Seattle Seahawks 34-17 on Monday night, securing their sixth win of the season. The result snapped a 30-game streak for Seattle in which they did not lose by more than four points. That run represented the fourth longest such streak in Super Bowl history.
Jeffery Simmons made his debut for the Bears after being acquired from Tennessee the previous week. Chicago sent two first-round picks in the trade package. Simmons entered the game with a wide smile and orange sleeves, signaling a fresh start. He immediately influenced the contest on the opening drive.
The new defensive lineman recorded a sack and a tackle for loss in his first appearance. He finished the night with six total tackles, three pressures, and one pass defensed. Coach Ben Johnson called the impact profound. The Bears defense limited Seattle to just one third-down conversion out of eleven attempts and held them to 252 total yards.
Caleb Williams managed the offense efficiently against a tough Seattle defense. He completed 71 percent of his passes for 247 yards. Williams did not commit a turnover and was sacked only once. His play set up three short touchdown runs by D'Andre Swift. The Bears built a 20-9 lead in the third quarter.
Seattle attempted to rally in the fourth quarter. DeMarcus Lawrence forced a fumble by Colston Loveland. That turnover led to a seven-yard touchdown pass from Sam Darnold to Cooper Kupp. The Seahawks converted a two-point attempt, narrowing the gap to 20-17. However, Darnold threw an interception with 4:41 remaining. Swift scored on the next drive to seal the victory.
The Seahawks struggled to run the ball, gaining only 81 yards on the ground. This lack of offensive balance persisted despite the recent acquisition of guard Quenton Nelson and the return of key players from injury. Coach Mike Macdonald acknowledged the team failed to execute necessary fundamentals. He stated that the Bears simply did the things required to win.
Williams also managed off-field distractions during the game. He wore black cleats with no visible logo to avoid further league scrutiny. He had reportedly been fined approximately $35,000 in the past two weeks for displaying an unauthorized logo. He described the decision as a way to minimize media attention.
Injury reports listed Bears defensive linemen Grady Jarrett and Kenatvius Street as leaving the game. Jarrett exited with a groin injury while Street left with a knee issue. For Seattle, defensive lineman Leonard Williams suffered a stinger and did not return in the second half. The Bears will host Tampa Bay on Sunday, while Seattle plays Arizona.
